Like many, many, many couples, Dayspring and Shane’s big day was affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Dayspring is a dear friend of mine. I got to witness the joy of her and Shane newly dating, moving in together, a romantic engagement on top of a Ferris Wheel, a Santa Fe Bachelorette Party, and a year planning their dream wedding at an Art Deco Venue in DTLA. Their wedding was planned and guests were getting ready to fly in when LA shut down a week before their wedding day - A WEEK!
Not wanting to enter into a pandemic unmarried, they scrapped all their plans and held a small, intimate wedding in their living room with just the two of them, their officiant, and the groom’s parents as their witness.
They began their union on March 17th 2020.
Fast forward a year later and I think it’s safe to say they made the right decision to get married that March day. No one could have predicted that the month-long flatten-the-curve would turn into almost a year in quarantine. Now Shane has a new job, they fostered and adopted a new cat, and are now about ready to embark on a cross-country journey to their new home in Durham, North Carolina.
Having never had professional portraits taken of their wedding day, as their friend I couldn’t possibly let them leave their love-nest apartment in Long Beach before taking some pictures of them! Two weeks before the big move and almost exactly on their one-year anniversary, they got all dressed up in their wedding attire, made a bouquet, and we walked all around Long Beach taking pictures.
These aren’t your typical wedding photos!
All of these locations we stopped at carried fond memories of their many years living in Long Beach. We stopped by a retro Movie Theater, Bixby Park, a few murals, and this lovely Ivy wall all while Dayspring shared stories from their time here. I’m so glad they chose to have professional photos taken to recreate their Wedding Day and I know they will look back fondly at these images for years to come.

Lauren gave us back a moment we thought the pandemic had taken from us forever. With a quick Covid elopement in our living room after our original wedding was canceled, we only have a handful of phone images from our wedding. With Lauren, we were able to recreate our wedding a year later and take beautiful professional photos. Lauren helped craft new memories for us. Being able to take our wedding photos in our city, Long Beach, gave us moments we will treasure forever. Each shot is beautifully composed, capturing that perfect moment where you look as good as you feel. Lauren gave us great direction with a mixture of posed and candid shots making sure everything was angled just so as to capture the most radiance. Trapezing around the city on foot was magical and we were able to capture so many shots in places we love and frequent regularly. Lauren was able to select beautiful backdrops on the fly maximizing the variety in our shoot. So many of the shots are memorable but the beautiful portraits outside the art theatre are our favorites.
Lauren took a combination of digital and film images adding a unique quality to the image gallery including her signature breathtaking double exposures. The artistry is apparent in the compositions. She even took pictures on her phone to be sure we had some sneak peeks to share right away. The final gallery was well organized and delivered promptly. We were able to order an assortment of prints for our home and family and continually receive compliments on the images. A really touching snapshot of our life, love, and home.
